James Boyd of The Daily Sail posted this report on their website - Following their win and OCS disqualification during the Europeans yesterday, Rob Greenhalgh and his 18ft skiff crewman Dan Johnson continued their winning streak this week when they took first place in the International 14s Prince of Wales Cup in Hayling Bay today.

The lengthy course involved the class' typical mixture of windward-leeward and triangles - these are used to limit the shape and size of the 14's kites. On this occasion the first reach was too tight to use a kite, adding a different perspective to the race compared to previous years. Racing kicked off shortly after 1pm in a 15 knot southwesterly breeze.

With 62 International 14s taking part, the start line was crowded and a pile up at the committee boat end resulted in a domino-style series of capsizes at the outset. 2002 POW winner Paul Vine with crewman Dave Dobrejvic got off to a good start, so good in fact that they were deemed OCS.

A majority of the fleet chose to take either a long single tack to the right side of the course or to the extreme left side, the former tactic paying. However Greenhalgh and Johnson took the middle ground and rounded the top mark in fifth place.

First round the top mark was Ben Dunton and Alex Southon, who subsequently capsized and retired.

On the first run Greenhalgh said he gybed early and by the bottom mark were up to second. "Up the second beat we got ahead of James Fawcett who was leading," continued Greenhalgh. "Then we sailed pretty safe - apart from a few POW last lap nerves."

Greenhalgh and Johnson finished in first place with a huge lead over second placed James Fawcett and Bruce Grant. This is Greenhalgh's second POW win (their first was two years ago).

One of the more dramatic incidents of the day came when Peter Dann and Dominic Stanislaus' 14 was accidentally T-boned by one of the German competitors. Their boat was severely holed just below the hounds and they were forced to retire.
