Images Championship - Day 1

Gocycle Musto Skiff Nationals - New Champion . . .

Bruce Keen from Stokes Bay SC is the new Musto Skiff UK Champion. Defending champion Richard Stenhouse from Rutland SC finished second and Andrew Peake from Whitstable YC was third.

Stenhouse started the final day with a six point lead over Keen. In the first race Andrew Peake won ahead of Russell Clark, with Stenhouse in tenth and Keen ninth. The second race Keen won with Stenhouse again in double figures, finishing 11th. The final race and Stenhouse finally back in winning mode but Keen had only to finish safely, he was second, to clinch the UK title by four points.

The Silver fleet was won by by Tom Wright and Bronze by Brendan Jenner. Youth winner is Dan Hendersen, Master Richard Smith and Grand Master Ian Renilson.

Also at the prize giving Gocycle rep and Musto Skiff racer Dan Parsons hosted a draw of tally numbers for the Gocycle which was won by Mark Wild from Blackwater sailing Club. He was pondering how to tow his MPS home with the Gocycle but in the end decided to pop it in the back of the car.

Gocycle Musto Skiff Nationals - Day 3 . . .

Richard Stenhouse moved into the lead on day 3 of the Musto Skiff nationals at Hayling Island SC, setting up a final day shoot-out with Bruce Keen as Stenhouse goes for a seventh national title.

Keen led the first two days, opening the series with two wins, while Stenhous struggled. But after the first day Stenhouse found his form and ran-up three victories and following the dropping of two discards has taken a six point lead going into the final day.

Day 3 of the championships was delayed through the unscheduled arrival of fog in Chichester Harbour. By 12:45 the fog had cleared and the fleet launched for another three races in sun and a steady(ish) force 3 in Hayling Bay.

Stenhouse continued his winning streak from Friady to take another win followed by Dan Hendersen and Ian Renilson, with Keen in tenth. Race 8 followed quickly after and Graeme Oliver broke the Stenhouse winning run and was followed home by Keen and Dan Ward with Stenhouse in fifth. In the final race of the day Andrew Peake was the winner followed by Stenhouse and Keen to set an interesting final day. Three races are scheduled to complete the event.

The Silver fleet is lead by Tom wright and bronze by Brendan Jenner. Youth is lead by Dan Hendersen, Master by Richard Smith and Grand Master by Ian Renilson.

Gocycle Musto Skiff Nationals at Hayling Island SC - Day 2 . . .

After a short delay the fleet launched into a light 7-8 knot breeze and were soon racing after a few general recalls under black flag.

The first race of the day was the lightest of the series so far giving the lightweights a crack at the front of the fleet. Class newcomer Wayne Barnicoat from Restronguet SC took a comfortable win followed by Rick Perkins and Mike Matthews and then Richard Stenhouse on a shortened one lap course.

The sea breeze established a bit more for the second race requiring the course to be reset but the sea breeze never really settled giving opportunity for some big gains, and losses. Stenhouse led the race and held on for the win in nail biting conditions as the wind came and went. Second home was Bruce Keen followed by Russ Clark, both recovering from poor results in the first race.

The final race of the day was held in full trapezing conditions as the sea breeze settled in fully to give some great downwind rides for the fleet. Stenhouse took his second win for the day with youth sailor Tom Wright from Rutland SC second and Graeme Oliver in third.

At the half way point the scorecard is taking shape with Bruce Keen leading from Richard Stenhouse and Daniel Hendersen. The silver fleet is being lead by Tom Wright from Pablo Arandia of Valencia and Dan Parsons. Bronze fleet is headed by Brenden Jenner from Gavin Brewer and James Lewis. Youth is headed by Dan Hendersen. Master by Richard Smith & Grandmaster Ian Renilson.

Gocycle Musto Skiff Nationals at Hayling Island SC - Day 1 . . .

Bruce Keen from Stokes Bay SC showed the record fleet the way with two wins on day 1 of the Gocycle Musto Skiff Nationals at Hayling Island SC on Thursday. Winner of race three was Andy Peake from Whitstable SC.

The record 74 boat fleet was (too) ready for action today and launched into a building 10 knot breeze. After a number of aborted starts the black flag eventually sorted the fleet out and first to show the way was Keen with a solid race win followed home by Peake and Daniel Hendesen from Thorpe Bay SC. The racing was extremely close with boats finishing nose to tail for the next 15 minutes.

As the breeze continued to build to 17-18 knots the fleet got away, again under black flag, for some superb sailing in sun and wind in Hayling Bay. Again Bruce Keen showed the fleet the way with his second win, followed home by current champion Richard Stenhouse and Russ Clark.

The breeze, and sun, held for the third race of the day which saw Peake hit the front to take a comfortable win from Dave Poston and Graeme Oliver, both competitors at the 2002 nationals here at HISC when the fleet numbered 12.

Peake leads overall by one point from Keen after the first three races, with Neil Upton-Brown of HISC in third. Defending champion Richard Stenhouse from Rutland SC is in seventh.

In the youth category Dan Hendersen leads, Master is lead by Richard Smith and the Grand Masters are being lead by Ian Renilson.

Gocycle Musto Skiff Nationals at Hayling Island SC - Preview . . .

The event is preceeded by a two day training camp which is currently fully subscribed with 30 boats attending. The training camp is being run by pro-coach Ian Turnbull and is supported by Ovington Boats and Musto Ltd.

The main event is supported by Gocycle® who have been working with the MPSCA to ensure all competitors have an enjoyable week with a range of socials and competitions.

In addition to the main championship award there are a number of category competitions which attract the best prizes, these include: * Silver & Bronze Fleet * Youth (under 21) * Master (Over 45) * Grand Master (Over 50) * Buddy competition. So everyone will have something to race for all the way through the weekend.

Gocycle will have 4 demo bikes at the championship for people to try & any visitors to HISC are welcome to have a go; just contact 'Dan from Gocycle' via dan@gocycle.com - Should there be any weather delays Dan has some Gocycle trials/races planned.

One lucky competitor will have the challenge of trying to work out how to tow their Musto Skiff home with a Gocycle, as there will be a draw of tally numbers done at the prize giving which will mean one competitor will win a Gocycle. Luckily they disassemble so the prize will easily fit in the car for the winner to take home. Gocycle has also generously donated a number of other spot prizes to be awarded during the week for any number of things...

Results and Reports will be posted on the HISC website and updates will be available on the Musto Skiff website.
