HISC Merlin Rocket Sailing - Review
2009 has seen a big interest in the Merlin Rocket class at Hayling Island S.C. This is partly because of the close and exciting racing the boat provides, but also because of the friendly and welcoming people that sail them!
The fleet at HISC was founded by Richard Bates and Emma Flight just three years ago, and there are now nine Merlins regularly sailing at HISC in the medium handicap, which has provided some great class sailing. The Merlin fleet at HISC is typical of the class with many female helms/crews, plus husband/wife and parent/child combinations, which makes for better socials too!
Hayling Island Sailing Club hosted two rounds of the Merlin Rocket Silver Tiller series on 14/15 June 2009. Saturday saw the open water event inside Chichester Harbour, with Sunday being sailed outside in Hayling Bay. A fantastic turnout of 45 boats contested Saturday’s event, and 43 sailed on Sunday, Click for Race Report.
HISC Merlins have supported various Chichester Harbour regattas in 2009, Harbour Regattas, as well as Chichester Harbour Federation Week Regatta, where there were eight Merlins.
So, if you are interested in joining us, or simply would like to have a go, please have a word with any of the HISC Merlin sailors, or the Marine Manager. We look forward to seeing you!
