Family Fun Week at HISC 2006

Friday:
Over to East Head for Breakfast
Wednesday:
Competitive spirit was defiantly the phrase used the most today with Dads, Mums, Grandparents and Children all taking part in building some of the most fantastic sandcastles, hunt for treasure, build a raft, a flying object as well as design a family fun week flag and outfits or jewelry made mostly from kits supplied as well as anything else people could put their hands on.
It was a real sight to be seen when parents become so protective of their sandcastles and refuse to let their young children help build a raft! Lunch was a super BBQ enjoyed by all. Everyone involved appeared to have a great day.
Thursday sees the Family Fun Week Regatta day, the morning is an open race followed by lunch and then the Mums race followed by the ultra competitive Dads race. For the evening entertainment there will be a Barn Dance, we are hoping for a great turnout and a fun evening. - LJ

Tuesday:
Day 2 of Family Fun Week saw the fleet sailing up the creek to Jo and Roger Vickers house. Easier winds if a little shifty saw one or two boats up side down but all managed to reach the target. Burgers and hot dogs where served on the Lawn and then a quick retreat due to the falling tide and a cracking sail back to HISC.
The on the water treasure hunt was won for the 2nd year by Team Covell which included three generations in their Wanderer. The annual wellie lobbing contest was cut short due to a rather large black cloud and all decamped to the main bar for the first outing of the bar boats for racing across the dance floor, the Hayling competitive spirit was defiantly alive and well. Wellie lobbing will conclude on East Head on Friday after breakfast.
This evening saw the Family Fun Week quiz won by the team led by Nick Willis. Tomorrow we will see the competitive spirit again when teams are asked to build sand castles, rafts, flying objects and take part in the treasure hunt.... Will the Covells hold onto their sandcastle building Crown?

Monday:
Family Fun Week 2006 dawned with rain and squaley winds and after much delibiration it was decided to sail to East Head for the planned picnic. One or two boats and their crews were clearly training for the 100m freestyle in Beijing but everyone arrived safe and well.
After a very sandy lunch with winds of force 5 gusting 6 all the Optimists were towed home along with a few others but the majority of the fleet showed enormous courage to sail in very marginal conditions from East Head.... Well done to all.
The evening entertainment included the customary Family Fun Week Bangers and Mash followed by musical chairs, pass the parcel as well as some great disco dancing. A great time has be been had by all with lots more planned for tomorrow and the rest of the week. - Lucy Jameson
