HOLT Tide Ride 2006

The annual HOLT Tide Ride took place at Hayling Island SC over the weekend on the biggest tide of the year. A total of 44 races were held for the 111 entreis, with Saturday comprising of the qualifying races and Sunday the seeded finals. With slightly less wind on Sunday but still with a huge tide pouring into Chichester Harbour the final stages took place in the harbour entrance in front of the clubhouse.

In the RS800, Pete Barton and Roz Allen had been the leaders after day one but in the final heats Steve Irish and Martin Cotrell dominated with Justin Deal and Sarah Marriott taking second, with Barton and Allen third.

The 29er was lead by Humpheries in the early rounds but Sunday it was a change about as Will Twemlow and Pete Pergera battled into the lead in the final heats, ahead of Henry Maxwell and Dicken Maclen with Sarah Martin and Nicola Groves taking third.

The RS700/Musto Skiff event produced a resounding victory for the Musto Skiff sailors. Richard Stenhouse lead the series from start to finish with Ian Renilson (MS) second. Kit Stenhouse (MS) moved from eighth on the opening day to take third place in the final heats and complete the skiff slam. Andrew Peake (RS700) was well in contention in the early rounds but slipped to sixth in the final session.

The B14 fleet was a close finish with Mark Barnes and Tom Pygall overtaking Chris Barnes and Dave Gibbons on the final day, after Nils Jolliffe and Joel MacDonald had a storming session on Sunday to put themselves up into third overall.

And finally the 49er and I-14 fleet, which was a run-away for the 49er teams. Paul Cambell-James and Mark Asquith lead after the first day but Ben Remocker and Simon Hiscocks edged them out in the Sunday finals to take victory, with Tom Morris and Gut Filmore taking third.

Event organiser Tim Hancock thanked the name sponsor - HOLT - for their continued backing of the event and also the HISC race teams that had made sure of a smooth running event once again.
