Boat Park / Sin Bin Working Party 10 May . . .

On Saturday 10 May we plan one last "boat parking working party" - one last push to move all the dinghies to their newly allocated spaces and to sin bin any "non registered" boats that are in the boat park.

We are now putting the final touches and fine tuning the overall boat parking plan and once we have moved the last cruiser from the car park we can finish laying out the boat park and the placing the tags to show where the allotted spaces are.

So on 10 May please, please come and help - As they say many hands make light work - and the more people that turn up the quicker we can finish the job. If you cannot make the work party you can still help by makings sure that your boat has this years registration tag, as this will help in identifying registered and non-registered boats.

. . . and best of all for all those that come and help we will have some rather excellent beer on tap, just to say thank you - JM

New Members Reception . . .

The next New Members’ Reception will be held on Saturday 10 May. We hold these receptions a couple of times each year, with the aim of giving all those who have joined the club in the last few months the opportunity to meet other new members, and some of the many people who contribute to the running of the club, including Flag Officers and Class Captains.

The reception is very informal, and those of you who have children are more than welcome to bring them along.  The reception starts at 6pm, giving you the opportunity to stay on and enjoy dinner at the club afterwards.

We will shortly be issuing invitations to those who have joined in the past 6 months. If you joined before that and were unable to get to the last reception in September, you are also most welcome to attend, but it would help us with planning the event if you would kindly let Kate in the office know you are coming. We really look forward to seeing you. - MLG

Try a Musto Skiff at HISC . . .

The Musto Performance Skiff is a growing class both in the UK and internationally. We now have three skiffs at the club and there are virtually no weekends where you will not see one of them racing. It is a well designed, high performance single hander that is really fun to sail.

In order for more people to sample the boat, Ovington Boats have agreed to bring a boat down to HISC for a demonstration day. This is provisionally organised for Sunday 11 May. If you are interested in having a go please contact me ASAP as I would like to confirm the day. Please e-mail me at neilupton-brown@tiscali.co. uk - NUB

HISC Summer Ball . . .

The event of the Summer at HISC has always been the Summer Ball. This year it is on the 21 June and tickets are on sale now. You can buy tickets on the phone or at Reception. Tickets are £36 and there will be a Midsummer Nights Dream theme to the evening - More detail on that to follow later.

The table plan is now available - if you have a group of friends who would like to buy tickets then you may open a table in your name and ask them to call and book themselves onto your table. Names cannot be added to the table plan until payment has been received. We are limited in the number of big table that we can accommodate and I would recommend that if you are planning to have a party of 10 or more you book as soon as possible.

Entry to the event is by ticket only. If you would like to attend the entertainment and don't wish to eat you may purchase a 9pm entry only ticket for £10 which can be traded for a drink of your choice at the bar.

Members not wishing to attend the event may use the Members bar on the night. There will be no other food available at the club on this night. - CL

Thursday Club . . .

Mike Baker & Mike McIntyre are pleased to report that the Thursday Club is a victim of its own success because we need more Instructors and Helpers!.

We are trying to ease the burden on the few by preparing a rota. The club operates on Thursday afternoons from May 1st between 15.30 hrs and 18.30hrs and its objective is to give young people between the ages of 10 and 16 years the opportunity to learn sailing. There are approx 30 pupils and some have been coming since we stated some three years ago and are now competent young sailors.

Whilst we have strict procedures the idea is that the youngsters and the Trainers & helpers enjoy it so if you are a qualified RYA instructor or person like me whose boat has grown too young for them, come and join us ! Please call Mike Baker 023 9246 4230 or email me at michaeljbaker@tiscali.co.uk - MB
