Next GODS Event - Thursday 9 February 2012 . . .

The February GODS dinner should appeal to everyone with an interest in the Harbour. The Chichester Harbour Trust, one of the main charities working for the preservation of the Harbour in which we all enjoy our sailing, exists to conserve, protect and improve the natural beauty and wildlife of the area for the public benefit by acquiring land, sites and buildings within the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its setting.

We are pleased to have as our speaker Sir Jeremy Thomas KCMG who will look at the lighter side of the Trust’s activities including some diplomatic incidents and his own recollections of boating in the Harbour 50 years ago.

As always we welcome ladies to this event, including their own good food and company in the dining room before we all meet again in the Main Bar for Sir Jeremy’s talk. Due to the Clubhouse being opened specially for us we regret that you cannot just turn up on the evening, unless it is to hear to talk only (approx 20.45), so it is essential that you book in advance for the dinner (£15.00 by Clubcard) and by Tuesday 7 February at the latest. To do so please contact the HISC office - 023 9246 3768 or use the link below. Don't delay, do it now! - PC

Please note that you should make sure that you are using the latest generation of Browsers (they are free), many new features will not work correctly in the older versions. - GN

Optimist meeting 31 March 2012 . . .

Whilst we may be able to set up ad hoc Optimist training or racing during the winter (keep an eye out for emails) I wish to meet as many sailors and parents as possible on Saturday 31st March so we can discuss our plans for the new season and to allocate dinghy parking spaces etc. My aim would be to meet in the main bar at 12 noon.

I am also hoping to offer a boat checking and help service to get your Opis up to scratch for the new season. I am very happy to sign Bouyancy Certificates through the Easter holidays so hopefully we can get off to a good start . . . more on LINK below . . .

HISC new RIB . . .

The new HISC RIB is an XS 650 equipped with an Evinrude E-tec115hp. There are a number of custom fit outs on this boat to make it “work” in our environment. These include; Double cladding on bows - Heavy rubber strake down the stem of the hull - Leaning post driving position (like Franks!) but with a pop up seat to rest those legs from time to time! - Internal fuel tank - Under floor wiring giving the deck of the boat a very clean clutter free feeling - 6 tie down points in the hull for securing marks etc to - We have had a trailer made by Indespension of Southampton that has been converted to “HISC beach use”.

A few things still required which include, painter, tow strop, vhf base station and aerial along with some petrol and oil. Initial testing will begin in Januray. Plus see the article below on naming the RIB . . . - CR
