PROGRAMME FOR BLUE PLAQUE DAY on Friday21 August 2015
There is a Blue Plaque event at Northney, on Hayling Island on 21st August, the Friday of Chichester Harbour Race Week. As part of this event a Blue Plaque will be presented by the Mayor of Havant to the crew of 3 original and one replica WWII canoes at HISC at about 12:00-13:00hrs.
The canoes will then launch off the beach at HISC (at the slipway by the winches) and wait off Mill Rythe where a Flotilla will form and move off at 14:00hrs up to Northney for the Ceremony.
The Flotilla will include two WWII warships – the ML1397 Medussa and a MGB81 and there will be a flypast of a Spitfire or a Dakota.
It is intended that a book will be published about Commander Harold Wilkinson Goulding’s D.S.O. work during WWII later this year.
He is pictured (above) at HISC, circa 1943 and (below) on trials in a Mk8 Cockle canoe off HISC, as used by the Combined Operations Pilotage Parties (COPPs) based at HISC.
