Joining Instructions

Children may join the Thursday Club at any Session during the season.

NOTE: Next Season starts on Thursday 5th May 2016

Just present yourselves at the Thursday Club Hut to the South side of the HISC Premises at 4pm.

  1. The Club is for children between the ages of 9 and 18 years who are able to swim 25 metres unaided.

  2. The sessions run from 4:00 to 6:30 on Thursdays from the beginning of May to the end of September excluding published dates of exceptions.

  3. Each session costs £2 per child.

  4. Buoyancy aids are provided. There are also a few wetsuits, but the children are advised to bring their own if possible (some supermarkets stock them), or at least a windproof jacket over a fleece or warm top.

  5. Children should bring a change of clothes and a towel; they will also need footwear that can get wet (old trainers, water shoes etc.). They will have access to hot showers after the sailing sessions.

  6. Parents/guardians must sign a form to enrol the child before the first session attended, which includes a “Parental Disclaimer” (see below), and be responsible for their child all the time he/she is on the Club premises.

  7. Parents/guardians need to sign an agreement for Temporary membership of Hayling Island Sailing Club. They are expected to abide by the Club rules whilst on the premises and may watch from the beach or balcony and use the club bar/catering facilities whilst the children are on the water. They are encouraged to help their children with rigging, launching, returning and putting away the boats.

  8. A Parent/guardian needs to stay on the premises and provide a mobile telephone number to contact them if there is an emergency with their child.

  9. Any medical problem that might possibly affect the child must be disclosed on the enrolment form, and permission granted to any emergency medical treatment necessary during the course of Junior Sailing activities.

  10. Every effort is made for the children to be on the water in boats supplied, but if the weather is inclement other activities may be provided or the session may be cancelled.

  11. Please note that in signing the “Parental Disclaimer” when enrolling the child, the parent/guardian has agreed the following:

  • The Club, its Trustees, Officers, members or assistants will not be held liable for any injury, damage or loss suffered by the Child or its Parents/Guardians while engaged in Club activities either on the Club premises or elsewhere, or activities for which the Club is or may be responsible, and the Club, its officers, members and assistants will be indemnified against all actions, claims or demands which might arise.

  • Parents/Guardians accept responsibility for the Child’s conduct while participating in the sailing programme in Chichester Harbour or adjacent waters and in and around the Club premises.

  • The decision to allow the Child to participate in any sailing or other activity is the sole responsibility of the Parent/Guardian.

  • The Club or its agents may photograph the Child for promotional purpose and waive any copyright.

  • Sailing, in common with all water sports has its attendant risks and the Club provides rescue facilities, supervision and control only during the hours when the Thursday Junior Sailing is in operation, i.e. 16:00-18:30 on Thursdays from May to September when specifically programmed and not cancelled due to weather or for any other reason, and only for children specifically enrolled for that session.
