RS Tera at HISC

Welcome to the RS Tera Section of HISC Website

Coming Up For Teras:

Tera Sprint Squad

We are planning to organise some coached Sprint Racing on a number of Saturdays in the autumn.

The format will be: a race briefing outlining things to work on, followed by sprint racing, and finished with a debriefing session.

We will have one race coach.

We expect the cost to be £10 per Tera per Saturday (or less), assuming we have at least 10 boats.  Very low cost based on parents help and the fact that it is racing.

These events are aimed at children who are confident club racers and above, and will be happy to race for 2 – 3 hours on Pilsey or a similar race area.

The aim is to make this fast a fun!

Tera Sport and Pro welcome.

A fuller plan will be made once we have an idea of numbers and commitment from parents to help with rib crewing etc.

The planned dates are as follows:

Saturday 3 October h/w 16.02   https://www.facebook.com/events/163353850667764/

Saturday 17 October h/w 14.36  https://www.facebook.com/events/740722139383916/

Saturday 7 November h/w 08.33 https://www.facebook.com/events/166274333708461/

Tera Winter Race Camp

We are now in a position to open booking for 2015 / 2016 Tera Winter Race Training.

Dates are confirmed as:

31 Oct / 1 Nov

28 / 29 Nov

12/ 13 Dec

30 / 31 Jan

27 / 28 Feb

5 / 6 March ( back up in case of bad weather)

Cost is £250 for the 10 sessions (£25 per day), payable by 12 Oct.

We are starting with 16 spaces on a first-come first-served basis (note we have had 21 people express an interest)  After the first 16 are booked we will have a waiting list until we reach 6 more, then we can book an additional coach.  What we can’t do are book 18 or 19 children as it will inflate the costs too much.

Therefore please book via the office as soon as possible, cut off 30 September but book asap to avoid disappointment.

To keep costs as low as possible, all parents will be required to help out driving/crewing a rib.

Each child’s parent/guardian will be required to help out on between 4-5 of the 10 squad training days.

It is a requirement of the training that a parent/guardian must remain on site at HISC at all times during the training weekends.

Is Winter Race Training right for you & your child?

Winter training is intense and hard work. There will be other training options for your child during the spring and summer months so please consider the following before booking a place:

  • This is race training, and not a learning to sail course. Have they had adequate racing experience, taken part in our HISC club racing in the Tera as well as other open events?
  • Is your child able to right their boat unaided?
  • Can they launch and recover unaided and confidently?
  • Can you invest in a drysuit and all other kit that is vital for winter sailing? Winter kit often includes more than one pair of winter gloves, hats, thermal base layers, an extra pair of boots in a larger size  to leave room for thermal socks and a lot of other stuff.
  • Will they be happy and confident to go out sailing on a very cold, wet, windy day?
  • Are you able to stay on site during the training?
  • Are you happy to help with beach duties, driving/crewing a RIB as required?

Children given a place on the course will be expected and be able to do all the above, attend every day of training and be happy and confident out on the water.

If you and your child meet the above criteria then Winter Race Training is suitable and you are very welcome to book on the course.

For other joint activites such and Sunday racing See the Youth Fixture List.

If you are not getting my direct emails, it means I don’t have your email address! The club only hold one email so often spouses don’t forward to each other. I am happy to have as many emails addresses on my Tera list as you need, so if you are not getting my direct emails please email me at teracaptain@hisc.co.uk and I will add you to my list.

Best Wishes
