RS Tera at HISC

Welcome to the RS Tera Section of HISC Website

The Winter Season.

Over the winter 24 of our RS Tera sailors have taken part in some intense but fun training at HISC.  This has been hugely successful thanks to coaches Julian, Ollie, and Chris and Will. All who have taken part have benefited enormously both on and off the water. The eleven HISC sailors who successfully gained places in the RS Tera Class Association Squads for 2014/15 have continued sailing throughout the winter with the RYA and National Youth Squad training programmes.

The New Season.

We had an extremely successful Start of the Season Party & Talk on the 7 March with over 150 attending to find out all the plans for the forthcoming season. The HISC Youth season starts on Saturday 4 April with a Pennant weekend followed a Youth Pursuit race on Easter Monday. To blast off those cobwebs, we will also be running our Rust Remover on that weekend 4 & 5 April.

This is a coached sailing session aimed at sailors who haven’t been out over the colder months. We would be grateful if you could let us know if your child would like to take part, their current level of sailing and what skills they would like to refresh. The cost is £50 per sailor – if we have space and you can only do one of the two days we will do our best to accommodate you.

We have a packed calendar of events ahead of us. Dates for your diary are Youth Training Week over May half term if you haven’t booked please do now, the RS Tera Southerns September and Youth Race Week 10 – 14 August. Look out for the HISC Regatta on Saturday 1 August, MRSC Regatta on Sunday 2 August and the HISC Youth Regatta on Sunday 23 August.

Every Saturday afternoon in June, July and August & September there is Youth Supervised Sailing - these are practice sessions for all youth sailors, with the help of an instructor for the less experienced. RYA Courses are also available and run throughout the year. Details can be found in the HISC training booklet and on the Youth Training Page.

Any further events will be promoted via email through the HISC Yahoo group and our HISC RS Tera Facebook page.

RS Tera Racing

For those who want to race there is Youth racing on Sundays (starting Sunday 12 April) at 11 am with a 10 am briefing, in or outside the training rooms. New  or inexperienced racers can race within a ‘Silver Fleet’ which means that they will be helped around the course. They may wish to identify themselves by flying a red ribbon, normally the experienced racers will be asked to where a vest  identify themselves to other racers and safety.

During the briefing the Race Officer will explain the race course, allocate a red ribbon and ask if anyone wants a 'buddy' to sail with out to the race course before racing.

Throughout the season there will be a number of race series run over the course of three weekends, with prizes after the last race. Once a month there‘s a Pennant weekend with three races on both Saturday and Sunday. See the Youth Fixture List.

If anybody wants more information or has input on the 2015 HISC RS Tera Season then please get in touch with us by email (teracaptain@hisc.co.uk) or at the club, we value your ideas and support.

Looking forward to seeing you all for a fun packed 2015 season.

Best Wishes
