Welcome to the RS Tera Section of HISC Website
The new season is fast approaching and we'd like to
update you on what has been happening and how plans are developing
for 2013.
The Winter Season
Over the winter eighteen RS Tera
sailors have taken part in some intense but fun training at
HISC. This has been hugely successful thanks to coaches Will,
Holly and Maisie. All who have taken part have benefited
enormously both on and off the water. Elsewhere, other HISC
members have continued sailing throughout the winter with RYA and
National Youth Squad training programmes.
The New Season
The HISC season will start in late
March. We would like to arrange a Rust Remover Day in April aimed
at sailors who haven't been out over the colder months. Please
let us know whether this is of interest and what skills you'd like
to refresh. Look out for our Sail and Train weekend in May.
Don't forget Youth Training Week over May half term and Youth Race
Week in July. New for this year in July is the Introduction to
Youth Racing, three half-day sessions, which intends to be the
softest of introductions to racing.
Throughout the season there will be
some parent-led fun sailing events on Saturday afternoons to enable
new sailing skills to be practiced. On Friday evenings there
will be Youth Supervised Sailing - these are practice sessions with
the help of an instructor. RYA Courses are also available and
run throughout the year. Details can be found in the HISC
training booklet and on the Youth Training web page.
RS Tera and Opi Fundays
Look out for more details in the
"Youth News" that comes out with the subscription letters. Do let
us know via email whether your child is interested and their level
of racing experience.
We are planning some RS Tera and Opi
fundays in July and August. In July we will run sailing games
off the beach followed by a BBQ for both sailors and parents.
A Swallows and Amazons day is planned for August. To enable us to
run these events we will need parent helpers so please let us know
if you would like to get involved.
RS Tera Racing
For those who want to race there is
Youth racing on Sunday at 11 am with a 10 am briefing, in or
outside the training rooms. New racers may fly a red ribbon to
identify themselves to other racers and safety. During the
briefing the Race Officer will explain the race course, allocate a
red ribbon and ask if anyone wants a 'buddy' to sail with out to
the race course before racing.
Throughout the season there will be
a number of race series run over the course of three weekends, with
prizes after the last race. Once a month there's a Pennant weekend
with three 'open meeting' style races on both Saturday and
Sunday. See the Youth Fixture List.
Team T-shirts
As the Worlds are in the UK this
year, the Nationals are on the South Coast, and we have our own
HISC RS Tera Open, we are creating a HISC T-shirt to generate
a bit of team-spirit at events. We will be running a
competition with a prize for the best strap-line. Please send
entries via email to teracaptain@hisc.co.uk.
If anybody wants more information or
has input on the 2013 HISC RS Tera Season then please get in touch
with us by email (teracaptain@hisc.co.uk) or
at the club, we value your ideas and support.
Looking forward to seeing you all
for a fun packed 2013 season.
