RS Tera at HISC

Welcome to the RS Tera Section of HISC Website

The new season is fast approaching and we’d like to update you on what has been happening and how plans are developing for 2014

The Winter Season

Over the winter 21 of our RS Tera sailors have taken part in some intense but fun training at HISC. This has been hugely successful thanks to coaches Chris, Holly and Andrew. All who have taken part have benefited enormously both on and off the water.

The nine HISC sailors who successfully gained places in the RS Tera Class Association Squads for 2013/14 and have continued sailing throughout the winter with the RYA and National Youth Squad training programs.

The New Season

The HISC Youth season will start on Saturday 5 April with a Season Launch Party including a presentation to parents on the year ahead and youth disco. To blast off those cobwebs, we will also be running our Rust Remover earlier that day. This is a coached sailing session aimed at sailors who haven’t been out over the colder months. More information to follow.

We have a packed calendar of events ahead of us.  Dates for your diary are Youth Training Week over May half term, the RS Tera Southerns 14/15 June and Youth Race Week 4 to 8 August. Look out for the All Fleet Fun Day, a day of fun on the water on Sunday 10 August. Beyond this, there is a Youth Racing Tournament on Sunday 17 August, the HISC Regatta on Saturday 2 August, MRSC Regatta on Sunday 24 August and the HISC Youth Regatta on Saturday 30 August.

Every Saturday afternoon in June, July and August there is Youth Supervised Sailing – these are practice sessions with the help of an instructor. RYA Courses are also available and run throughout the year.   Details can be found in the HISC training booklet and on the Youth Training Page.

Any further events will be promoted via email through the HISC Yahoo group and our HISC RS Tera Facebook page.

RS Tera Racing

For those who want to race there is Youth racing on Sundays at 11 am with a 10 am briefing, in or outside the training rooms.  New racers may fly a red ribbon to identify themselves to other racers and safety. During the briefing the Race Officer will explain the race course, allocate a red ribbon and ask if anyone wants a 'buddy' to sail with out to the race course before racing.

Throughout the season there will be a number of race series run over the course of three weekends, with prizes after the last race.  Once a month there‘s a Pennant weekend with three ‘open meeting’ style races on both Saturday and Sunday. See the Youth Fixture List.

If anybody wants more information or has input on the 2014 HISC RS Tera Season then please get in touch with us by email to teracaptain@hisc.co.uk or at the club, we value your ideas and support.

Looking forward to seeing you all for a fun packed 2014 season.
