Welcome to the Topper Section of the HISC Website
Are you Too big for an Optimist and Tera, Too small for a Laser, want to stay single handed?
Then the Topper is the perfect boat. We run training sessions for Topper sailors alongside Lasers which aids progression as the sailor grows. Many ex-Topper sailors progress to be top Laser sailors however progression to Laser is not the only path, many switch to 29er the new double handed machine.
The club will be running racing on Sunday afternoons for Toppers within the Youth Racing program.
The Topper Class enjoy a position as being regarded as The Friendly Class, not only amongst the sailors, but also shore-side parents and supporters who are always happy to help one another and promote good sportsmanship.
The Topper Class work closely with the RYA to deliver one of the world's most extensive race training programmes for sailors under 16. This is achieved through the RYA Zone Squads, the National Junior Squad and the National Junior Intermediate Squad. Selection for these squads takes place in September/October each year with qualifying events and applications required during the preceding months. The class also has its own Junior Development Squad (JDS) and Youth Squads which compliment the RYA initiatives and also support sailors whose age might not fit with the RYA selection criteria. This year at HISC we have sailors in the South and South East Zone squads as well as the National and Intermediate squads.
The Nationals attract 350 plus sailors every year and this year will be in Pwllheli North Wales, but in addition there are is an extensive program of local open meetings, with several in Chichester Harbour, and national events. Our sailors have made friends for life - a scene not to be missed.
