Optimist meeting 31st March 2012
Whilst we may be able to set up ad hoc training or racing during the winter (keep an eye out for e mails) I wish to meet as many sailors and parents as possible on Saturday 31st March so we can discuss our plans for the new season and to allocate dinghy parking spaces etc. My
aim would be to meet in the main bar at 12 noon.
I am also hoping to offer a boat checking and help service to get your Opis up to scratch for the new season. I am very happy to sign Bouyancy Certificates through the Easter holidays so hopefully we can get off to a good start.
One new initiative we will be trying during the Easter Holidays would be to run some sprint series racing ie multiple short races on the same day. This should sharpen starting skills and establish a challenge for all.
In the forthcoming mailing our Rear Commodore Youth, Robbie Wells will explain the schedule for Youth Sailing in 2012 and Rear Commodore Training Murray Maunder has lots of good plans. Coached sessions will be a regular part of the Opi calendar and we would like to tailor training and racing to match the experience of the sailors taking part.
To assist me please let me know if you or your child intends sailing an Optimist this season preferably by dropping me a quick email.
Don't forget there is a lot of good information on Opi sailing on the IOCA website plus several pages on our own HISC site some of which will be updated very soon. Just to wet your long term appetites the Optimist Worlds are currently under way in Napier NZ. Lets hope the GBR sailors bring home some silverware.

There are opportunities for winter coaching at intermediate and senior level around the harbour this winter. If your child is interested please let me know. I will be discussing beginner and refresher training with the Training Committee next week. Hopefully we will be rolling out plans for the 2012 season soon.

Some Optimist parents have already aligned their club duties to support the Opi Open on 23rd and 24th June. There are still vacancies on Dutyman if you wish to do the same.
