Tera & Oppi Red Ribbon Training Club 2020
This group is organised with the guidance and support of Melvyn Cooper Sailing and was developed to build children's confidence and to make a smooth transition from the lagoon to sailing confidently on West Mud.
Red Ribbon Training Club has been running for the last 3 years, being hugely successful with children taking part in a four day course, spread across the best tides of the early season.
All children involved gained confidence, formed friendships and learnt fundamental skills that helped them progress to the next stage of their sailing career.
It is available for both Opi and Tera sailors, please note all participants will either need their own boat or hire one through the sailing club.
Red Ribbon is for you if:
- Last year you gained your RYA level 1 and 2
- You can tack and gybe happily when sailing in the lagoon
- You would like to be able to sail independently around West Mud
- You would like to learn how to sail around a triangle course
- You would like to experience a race starting with a committee boat and flags
- You would like to take part in the Red Ribbon Regatta in July and have your first go at racing in the Regatta Fleets during this year’s Race Weeks.
Red Ribbon is not for you if:
You have already started racing in the Regatta fleet and would just like to refresh your skills.
Dates and programme for 2020:
- Sunday 19 April (Training)
- Sunday 10 May (Training)
- Saturday 20 June (Training)
- Saturday 4 July (Training)
- Sunday 5 July (Red Ribbon Regatta)
Please allow approx. £35 per training day, however final costs will be worked out and shared openly dependant on the number of children that sign up. The group will be kept small, aiming for no more than 18 children. You will have to pay in full for all four days to secure a place.
The Red Ribbon Regatta cost will be separate to the training costs, and is fun coached racing day, with lots of prizes!
The expected cost is £20 entry fee, which will be confirmed before the course starts. This is a fantastic end of the training days is and leaves children confident to take part in other youth events.
You will need to pay for all four of the training days to secure your place on the course. Payment will be required up front and in full.
Parental participation is vital, to aid confidence and also to help on the water and shore.
This is NOT a DROP and Go, be prepared to learn as much as your child!
To register your interest please sign up on the doodle poll, we will then calculate costs from here depending on numbers, so please only sign up if you are very interested and meet the criteria above.
The Doodle Poll will close on Sunday 16 February, you must sign up before then or you will not be able to join the course.
We will then forward you a Sailing CV which will help us and Melvyn put your child in the correct group.
