29er at HISC

Class Captain: Gareth Davies - 29ercaptain@hisc.co.uk

2026 stands to be an exciting and very busy time for the 29er sailors at HISC.

In preparation, the winter has seen sailors enthusiastically participating in training, whether as part of class squads, the RYA Talent Academies, or through our own winter training programme. Hopefully, the many hours spent in the cold will pay off this year.

The start of 2026 will see many of our sailors heading along the south coast to race on the highly competitive national circuit. Good luck to all of you!

From 3–10 April, the RYA Youth Nationals will be hosted at HISC, promising some very competitive and exciting racing in Hayling Bay. Hopefully, lots of our sailors will take advantage of this being a home event and achieve some great results.

29er Sprints return in May 2026, with a five-event series planned and kindly sponsored by Sandy Point Watersports. These events will see 10–20 boats filling the harbour or bay with fast-paced, action-filled racing.

Weekly club racing, as always, offers a fantastic opportunity to get out on the race course and enjoy harbour racing within the skiff handicap fleet. Once a month, 29ers also enjoy their own start at each HISC pennant weekend in Hayling Bay. All of this provides excellent practice for pairs aiming to perform well on the national circuit.

It would be wonderful to see even more 29ers making the most of these opportunities, so please use the WhatsApp group to let us know you are around and encourage others to get out on the water too.

Looking further ahead, some of our sailors will head off to the World Championships in Kiel or the European Championships on Lake Lipno. Good luck to all who venture away. Those choosing to stay closer to home will continue to enjoy close competition at Chichester Harbour Race Week (10-14 August) and HISC’s Youth Race Week (3-7 August), a fantastic event, particularly for transitioning sailors, with the chance to form new friendships and become part of this exciting fleet.

In mid August our 29ers will be joined by 29er sailors from around the country when HISC hosts the 29er Nationals. Hopefully this will be an amazing event, with an amazing social scene and excellent racing.

We are fortunate to have one of the largest fleets of 29ers in the country, so there is nearly always a fellow boat heading out on the water, or around to support on shore with advice and top technical tips. With a full diary there’s lots to look forward to - why not come on down and enjoy 2026 in this lively and friendly class!
