ThrustWSH Talk Review

Butch gave a really interesting talk last Friday on helping design Richard Nobel's jet propelled boat THRUST WSH for an attempt on the Water Speed Record, aiming to achieve 400mph.

He covered the design of previous record breaking boats and their limitations and how these have been avoided in the past using foils and planing hulls which have now reached their maximum safety level. Very few pilots have survived a record breaking attempt. Foils prevent the craft from taking off, but there are problems with super cavitation affecting the foils at speeds of over 70 mph which his team believe they can overcome.

There were many questions and lots of people queuing up to talk to Butch afterwards.
He was very pleased with the interest shown and has agreed to return to give an update after the quarter model trials in Scotland, which have been delayed again due to technical problems with the software.
