Solar Panel Update
We’re delighted to share an update on the rooftop solar installation, now live and already powering our facilities with clean renewable energy. What began as a long-term ambition is now a reality, marking a proud step forward in HISC’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
This project was made possible by not-for-profit Community Energy organisation Energise South Downs (ESD), who successfully funded the installation through a community share offer. In just ten days, ESD raised the £302,000 required to install solar across three Hampshire sites - HISC included.
Collectively, the three systems now provide around 283 kWp of solar capacity, generating an estimated 270,000 kWh of clean electricity each year and saving approximately 54 tonnes of CO₂ annually - the equivalent of planting 2,000 trees per year.
CEO and founder of ESD Catriona Cockburn, also a HISC Member, states “It’s been great to support HISC in making this project happen. HISC are now generating more renewable power on site, helping to reduce reliance on the grid, lowering electricity costs while supporting the long-term protection of the marine environment we sail in and enjoy.”
We’re also proud to have had the support of another of our members, Olympic gold-medallist Eilidh McIntyre MBE, who has championed community-powered renewable energy and its importance in safeguarding the natural world for future generations.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible, from ESD and its community investors, to our members who backed the vision and helped bring it to life.
